Celebrating the true spirit of our nation’s heroes

The Local Hero Awards was founded by Bal Heer, a community-minded entrepreneur with a vision to create a national platform that shines a light on the extraordinary people who make a difference every day.

What began as a heartfelt idea has grown into one of the UK’s most inspiring events, a celebration of kindness, courage, and community spirit that brings together people from all walks of life.

The Local Hero Awards is dedicated to honouring those who go above and beyond: the carers, volunteers, professionals, young achievers, and everyday heroes whose actions remind us of what it truly means to care, to serve, and to inspire.

The Inspiration Behind the Local Hero Awards

The Local Hero Awards was inspired by a deep-rooted appreciation for individuals who, like Regional Homes, are committed to creating a positive impact every day. These are the people who go above and beyond, embodying the values of security, care, and community that define Regional Homes' mission.

The awards pay tribute to these extraordinary yet humble individuals who bring light to their neighbourhoods and serve as role models of kindness, courage, and selflessness.

Local Hero Awards background

About the Founder – Bal Heer

philanthropist, and proud mother of two. Her journey began from humble beginnings, building a business from the ground up through sheer determination, self-belief, and faith.

Bal’s story is one of resilience and purpose, proof that no matter the challenges we face, it is only ourselves who can define or limit our success. She believes that we are the captains of our own ship; “we may face storms, but a true captain weathers them with courage and belief.”

Guided by her philosophy to “be the change you seek,” Bal empowers others to lead with compassion and strength, reminding us that “it’s not how our environment affects us, but how we affect our environment”.

As the visionary founder of the Local Hero Awards, Bal created a national platform to celebrate those whose courage, kindness, and dedication transform lives and inspire communities across the UK. Her mission is simple yet powerful: to shine a light on the good in others, and to remind us all that with faith, resilience, and self-belief, anything is possible.

Why the Local Hero Awards?

In every town and city, there are unsung heroes whose efforts often go unnoticed. The Local Hero Awards was created to give these individuals, groups, and organisations the recognition they deserve, turning the spotlight toward those who make our communities, and our country, stronger.

Each award is a symbol of gratitude, a way to thank the people whose compassion and courage uplift others and bring hope to the nation.

What Change Do We Seek?

The Local Hero Awards is more than a celebration; it is a movement for positive change. By sharing these inspiring stories, we aim to build a culture of appreciation and unity, one where kindness is valued, community is strengthened, and every act of courage inspires another.

Our vision is simple yet powerful: To honour those who make a difference, and to inspire everyone to do the same.
